The Old Courts haven’t let a pandemic slow them down in bringing creative minds and projects together. Instead, they had various conversations with creative entrepreneurs about working remotely from home during lockdown and the issues that might bring. The same feelings have been shared – lots of distractions, slow WIFI, missing speaking to others, sharing ideas and feeling part of a team. So, The Old Courts decided to renovate spaces in their building that could be put to better use in the mission to create a creative hub in Wigan.
The Creative Office spaces within the stunning Victorian building are the ideal space for creative businesses, start-ups and freelancers from Wigan and surrounding areas who want to come together to help create a cultural quarter in the heart of the town.
Rebecca Davenport – Director of Sales and Marketing at The Old Courts said: “We know that there have been a number of creative start-ups during lockdown as well as frustrated creatives yearning to be surrounded by like-minded people. We are hearing really positive stories of these individuals flourishing and needing to move off their dining room tables into a purpose-built professional environment. We have created 15 modern studio offices and 20 hotdesking stations with a meeting room, printing facilities and kitchenettes. We have also commissioned a local artist to brighten up the spaces with artwork. We like to think that being creatives ourselves that we have made the perfect spaces for creative businesses.”
The interest already has been really encouraging. We have already secured 3 tenants: Patrick Wilson Architects, Gifts Beyond Words and Northern Heart Films and we have a list of people to show round including a graphic designer, a print designer, a photographer and a fashion designer. The general feedback has been that they are really excited about the prospect of being surrounded by other creatives instead of working from home or in a commercial business suite.”
We have always dreamed of Wigan becoming a creative hub like the neighbouring cities of Manchester and Liverpool. We believe in the value of a creative ecology and in order to achieve that, there needs to be the infrastructure to support creatives working and residing in Wigan. Wigan has great transport links, excellent colleges and exciting cultural offers with more on the horizon such as the Wigan Pier redevelopment. We’re hoping that our creative studios will bring Wigan one step closer to having the complete package for creatives to live and work.”
Nestled within this beautiful Victorian building, the spaces are flooded with light and on the doorstep of fantastic town centre amenities, including The Old Courts’ own cafe The Fork & Brush Arts Cafe and bar, Bailiff Bar).
Those who take up the spaces will have their own private and secure office and will also be working in a hub amongst other creative businesses. The newly renovated office spaces range in size from 87sq ft to 268sq and are available to rent from as little as £39 per week. What is included:
