Proper Good is a cross-sector partnership that is working together to create the conditions for Social Enterprise growth and sustainability in Wigan & Leigh. We are on a consortium who aim to:

  • Build strong and sustainable local support systems to underpin enterprise growth and resilience for charities and social enterprises;
  • Pool and share resources to support more efficient delivery models for investment or interventions;
  • Promote collaborative or joint access to local pots of funding, incorporating both grant and repayable finance; and
  • Promote and strengthen local money flows to keep capital within local social economies

Highlights

Since Proper Good launched we ran 12 months of networking sessions and hot desking space specifically aimed at Social Enterprises and community groups. Over 80 people from various VCSE attended the sessions. The sessions enabled us to support some groups with more tailored help such as Wigan Bikes who we’ve been able to provide meeting space and administrative support too. We also supported Idaraya Life CIC, Casino Improv, Ian Hayles, Green Room Creative CIC, Wigan Autistic Theatre Company and Happy Smiles CIC with free space for them to work from.

In March we ran an intense bootcamp specifically designed for social enterprises’ leaders.

What’s happening now?

We are still attending the consortium to help shape support for VCSEs. A big one for the diary: November this year, there’ll be a Soup Day for Social Enterprises to pitch their idea for funds. Watch this space for more information.
